About Heart of America Chapter 28
Heart of America Chapter 28 is an affiliated chapter of Dance Masters of America, Inc., based in the Kansas City area. Our members share the common goal to advance dancing as an art form and improve the practice of its teaching. Our parent organization - Dance Masters of America (DMA) - is an International Educational Dance Teacher Organization that has passionately served the dance community for over a century.
Chapter 28 offers workshops, master classes, and conventions for both teachers and students alike in addition to scholarship auditions and competition opportunities.
Chapter 28 is proud to be a chapter that sponsors dance competitions throughout the year that are qualification competitions for the National DMA Competition held every summer in glorious resorts and hotels all across the country!
What we do
Chapter 28 holds an annual fall convention where students and teachers alike can explore their craft, get inspired, and share the endless joy, love, support, and community that dance brings. We select outstanding faculty to teach workshops in the disciplines of tap, jazz, ballet, contemporary, and more.
In conjunction with our fall convention, we hold our annual Scholarship Auditions. Dancers from our affiliated studios come together to go through a true audition process, where they are scored on techniques in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acro, and Modern* (Teen & Miss/Mister only).

In the spring we hold our Solo Title Competition as well as our Performing Arts Competition, which is a qualifier for DMA Nationals in the Summer.
We pride ourselves in holding a family oriented competition with qualified dance educators serving as our judges.

Non-members are welcome to attend our convention and register their students to compete in our Performing Arts Competition as well. However, our Solo Title Competition and Scholarship Auditions are chapter member exclusive.
Heart of America Chapter 28 holds 7-8 meetings per year, August through April.
As a member of DMA, you will become part of an inclusive network of dance teachers who strive for excellence in the art of dance. During our meetings we share ideas about operating a successful dance business, discuss teaching techniques, and brainstorm ways to continue the innovation and inspiration in this truly unique profession.
An annual payment for Chapter and National Dues totaling $155 is due on September 1st for each chapter member.
